1st Global Cardboard Design Challenge at TJMS

Thomas Johnson Middle School STEM Department sponsored the 1st Global Cardboard Design Challenge. Students and their families were invited to create an innovative and creative objects out of cardboard and recycled materials and share it at the challenge.  Aside from games created with their families, the STEM students worked collaboratively in their classes to create arcade games.  Two hundred forty four students participated in the activity which was was held on October 11, 2014 in the TJMS cafeteria from 2:45 to 3:45.  For an hour the students showcase their arcade games to visitors, parents, teachers and administrators.  Together they tried to play and have fun using the cardboard games.

 

The activity was fun, playful and inspiring way to foster creativity in children through a simple process called creative play. Through creative play, kids engage their imaginations and open up their minds to what’s possible – and then they turn their ideas into something real. In this process, children learn to develop and test their own ideas, take chances, solve problems, get input from others and become better creative thinkers. The activity is
